Moments with Mauao explores different perspectives of our beloved Mauao in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand. The collection is a visual exploration by New Zealand water photographer Lou Burton (that’s me, hi 👋 ) of ocean scapes and colours of our natural world which can be experienced in Mount Maunganui through all the seasons, during first and last light.

I love to photograph ocean scenes both in the water and from the land in New Zealand, and I’m fascinated by the colours and effects of light cast across the sky and on the water in both blue hour (the time just before sunrise and after sunset) and golden hour (the hour after sunrise and before sunset). You can usually find me on the beach or in the ocean at first light here in Mount Maunganui, no matter the season or water temperature.
